is a village and ecclesiastical parish, formed in 1845 from portions of the civil parishes of Woodbury and Colaton Raleigh, 4 miles east from Topsham station on the Exmouth branch of the London and South Western railway, 6 south-east from Exeter and 6 north from Exmouth," in the Eastern division of the county, hundred of East Budleigh, Woodbury
petty sessional division, St. Thomas union, county court district of Exeter, rural deanery of Aylesbeare, and archdeaconry and diocese of Exeter". The" church of the Holy Trinity is a building of stone in the Gothic style, erected in 1844 by the late Miss Marianne Pidsley, of Greendale. The church will seat 240 persons.
The register dates from the year 1845. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value 225, with residence and 5 acres of glebe, in the gift of Mrs. Thornycroft, and held since 1882 by the Rev. Henry Powell Alford M.A. of New College, Oxford, and rural dean of Aylesbeare. In the centre of the village is a large stone water cistern, the gift of the late Miss Pidsley,
